Fine Art Auctioneers
Methods of Bidding
There are four ways in which you can bid with us: in person, commission bidding, by telephone and online bidding.
Attending the Auction
Always the best way to follow an auction and to experience the excitement of auction day. Before you can bid in person you will need a bidding number. This can be obtained from the accounts office when you register.
When attending an auction for the first time you will be asked to complete a Buyer's Registration Form with your full contact details. You can do this when you arrive, or to speed things up you can complete the form beforehand, remembering to bring it with you, along with the required forms of identification. We accept photo ID which includes driving licences and passports.
If you successfully purchase a lot, please ensure that the auctioneer can clearly see your bidding number.
If you are unable to attend the auction you may leave a commission bid with us, by indicating the maximum amount you wish to bid on a lot, excluding buyer's premium. This will be executed on your behalf by the auctioneer, who will purchase the lot as cheaply as possible, allowing for any reserve prices and other bids.
Please note that whilst we take every care to ensure that absentee bids are executed correctly, we cannot be held responsible for any errors made or bids missed.
We strongly recommend that you view or receive a condition report before submitting a commission bid.
Where we receive two identical commission bids, the first bid will be the preferred buyer.
You may make a commission bid by calling us on 01279 817778 or emailing email@example.com
Alternatively you can use our website’s online bidding system. You will be asked to register and then allocated an account. Then you can add bids to your basket. Please remember to complete the check out process; you will be sent an email to confirm that your bids have been placed.
We can provide telephone bidding for higher value lots. This service is only available for our Country House and Specialist Sales and only on lots with an estimate of £500 or more.
Please phone us on 01279 817778 to request a telephone bid. The number of lines is limited so we would advise booking as early as possible. We require requests before 4pm the day before the sale. We cannot organise telephone bidding on the day of the sale.
We take every care to ensure the smooth running of this service but we cannot be held liable if your bids are missed for any reason. We advise leaving a maximum covering bid in case we are unable to contact you by telephone.
The latest method which is rapidly growing in popularity and allows you to participate in the auction live via your computer.
For our specialist sales, we offer a live online bidding service via the-saleroom.com for bidders who cannot attend the sale.
To bid online you need to register at www.the-saleroom.com
Please note that lots purchased via The Saleroom live auction service will be subject to an additional 3% commission charge + VAT, on the hammer price.
