Magnificent Meissen Centrepiece
22nd April 2008
One of the lots for our forthcoming Fine Art & Antiques Sale on the 10th of June is this fine figure of Neptune and Thetis. Bearing the initials of Friedrich Augustus, this dates the figure to either Friedrich Augustus II (1836-1854) or Friedrich Augustus III (1904-1918) this corresponds to the Meissen crossed swords mark 1825-1924. This particular model, from the Mythology range, was initially commissioned for Catherine the Great and the figure of Thetis is rumoured to have been based upon her.
