JOHN, Augustus: Chiaroscuro: Fragments of Autobiography. J. Cape, 1952, 1st. edn. dw. Plus: a beautiful, and possibly unpublished photograph (sellotaped to the front pastedown, now loose) of Augustus John, family, etc. in, and in front of a Romany Caravan: Written in ink at the bottom of it: at the Rookery, Thurning, Norfolk, 1909; John Moody from Charles; and below the photograph: Photograph taken by Charles Slade circa 1909 and presented to me by him in 1953 (see p. 66); the book also has John Moodys name to front endpaper. Page 66 records, in the context of a caravan journey: after an unprofitable stay at Palling we moved northwards to pull in at last at the home of friend, Charles Slade; Plus: A Signed autographed letter from Augustus John to Mr Moody, on 'Fryern Court, Fordingbridge' headed paper, dated May 6, 1950, Thanking him for the photographs 'I am quite delighted to have them- A reproduction will be most suitable in an Autobiography Im at work on' Plus The original stamped envelope addressed in ink in Augustus Johns hand.
