A pair of Austrian sapphire and diamond cluster earrings c.1890

A pair of Austrian sapphire and diamond cluster earrings c.1890,
the earrings with a slightly cushion shaped mixed cut sapphire, claw set in gold and surrounded by a border of old European cut diamonds. All set in silver collets with gold under bezels to gold continental fittings. Tested as silver and approximately 14ct gold, with Austrian assay marks for Vienna. Numbered 14099, makers mark E.K. 23.00 x 17.10mm, 7.86g,
together with a matched French synthetic sapphire and diamond brooch, c.1900,
with a cushion shaped synthetic sapphire, claw set to the centre, with a border of old European cut diamonds. All set in gold and platinum. Tested as approximately 18ct gold and platinum, with French poinçon and an Austrian import mark, 1891 to 1901. 23.10 x 10.21mm, 7.77g (3)

Condition Report

The earrings are very tarnished.
One hinged fitting does not always line up properly when closed.
Some facet edge wear to the sapphires.
Noticeable marks and scratches to the synthetic sapphire in the brooch.
Light surface marks, light abrasion to the tables and facet edges to the sapphires in the earrings.
Odd scratches under 10x magnification.
No details regarding origin or treatment.
The cluster dimensions on the earrings should read - 18.20 x 17.10mm and 18.70 x 17.15mm

Just the brooch is synthetic.
Approximately 0.20ct each - old European cut diamonds in the earrings.
Sapphires in earrings measure approximately 10.62 x 9.40 x 4.38mm.
Synthetic sapphire in brooch measures approximately 14.40 x 12.12 x 4.40mm.
