Footnote:In February 1969, the Post Office Stamp Advisory Committee began planning the 1970 stamps programme. Following the launch of the British Architecture series with the Cathedrals issue in May 1969, the committee felt the theme was worth continuing and likely to be commercially successful. Various subjects were discussed, including Tudor Buildings, Ancient Monuments, National Trust Properties and Stately Homes. To provide contrast with the cathedral designs, it was agreed to avoid large, imposing buildings and instead focus on more modest town houses or country cottages.
Sheila Robinson was among five artists invited to submit designs, alongside Richard Downer, Peter Gauld, Ronald Maddox, David Gentleman and Keith Hensby. Two of her designs, 'Welsh Stucco' and 'Ulster Thatch', were selected. Although the Post Office did not allow them to be issued as editions, a number of proofs were produced for each. Although the precise location depicted here is uncertain, the building may possibly be a house in Thaxted.

Not viewed out of glazed frame. Ink not strongly printed throughout - unsurprising for a proof that was meant for public.
