1947 MG TC roadster

BUYER'S PREMIUM FOR THIS LOT IS 12.5% PLUS VAT

Chassis No: TC4289
Registration No: VXS140
Odometer reading: 00149

Introduced in the immediate post-war period, the MG TC became one of Britain's most influential sports cars, playing a significant role in establishing the marque's reputation abroad, particularly in the burgeoning American market. Retaining the traditional virtues of the pre-war MG Midgets, the TC combined lightweight coachwork, nimble handling and open-top motoring with unmistakably sporting character, qualities that continue to endear the model to enthusiasts today.

Finished in black, this example presents as a running and driving restoration project, having benefitted from considerable recent attention. Works are understood to have included mechanical expenditure on the engine, together with a retrimmed interior featuring attractive new upholstery. The dashboard is further enhanced by its complement of desirable blue-faced Jaeger instruments, a particularly pleasing period feature.

A quantity of invoices and receipts accompany the car, documenting restoration and maintenance works carried out in recent years. Having seen significant investment, the MG would now benefit from a degree of recommissioning and further refinement before returning to regular use, offering an appealing opportunity to acquire and enjoy one of the most recognisable post-war British sports cars while completing the final stages of its restoration. Supplied with accompanying paperwork relating to the works undertaken.

runs drives starts and stops, although it runs intermittently on multiple cylinders, mostly running on two, with revs it does pick up four. reputedly has recieved a 'top end rebuild' in 2024, gauge reads good oil pressure.

Accompanying paperwork includes an MG TC Instruction Manual together with a file of invoices relating to recent restoration and recommissioning works. Receipts include Brown & Gammons-supplied components comprising walnut burr veneer, rear road springs, spring shackles, pins and bushes, together with cam followers, crankshaft oil seals, +0.020in big end bearings, front crank oil thrower, timing chain cover gasket, Woodruff key, steering column circlips, rocker cover gasket, hub seals, a standard 1250cc T-Type piston set, handbrake cable, front axle spring bolt and bush kit, rev counter drive cable and a replacement dynamo costing approximately £400. The history file further contains an invoice from Flannery Speedometer Repair for the rebuild of two speedometers and one rev counter totalling £1,025, together with a replacement brake master cylinder invoiced at approximately £400. The receipts provided relate to parts expenditure alone and demonstrate recent investment in the car.
The V5 registers three previous keepers, and suggests it was at one point used/registered overseas, the registration is non transferable, it had one former keeper from Dec 1947 until 2016, where it passed to its second keeper who owned the vehicle until 2024 where it was sold again and given its most recent work and restoration, it was then listed on car and classic online auctions in 2025 where it was sold onto the current vendor for £15,500.

The cars interior remains unfinished with no door panels, the steering wheel is loose, but steering itself is good and seems to track straight with minimal play, at time of cataloging brakes also work and pull straight, the bodywork would benifit from a professional repaint and some time on ajdustment of the doors to the profile of the bodywork.
