Design - Two Day Sale

  Lot 2

1963 Land Rover Series 2A

1963 Land Rover Series 2A,
Registration Number: 610 WWC,
Date of first registration: 15-11-1963,
Chassis Number: 24111494B,
Engine no: 25206725F,
Recorded Mileage: 64,050 miles

The Land Rover Series 2A was launched more than sixty years ago in 1961. A massive improvement over the previous model, thanks to its curvaceous and more accommodating body, it was a welcome update to Solihull’s finest, which provided the only viable transport for farmers and most of the Third World.

Initially available with either the two-litre petrol or diesel engine from the Series 1, a move to larger and more powerful engines of the 2.25ltr was inevitable. The 72bhp petrol engine might displace the same as its diesel stablemate, but is a completely different animal, being silky smooth and a joy to rev. Though a little thirsty over the diesel equivalent, the moderate increase in fuel consumption is a small price to pay for what is, indisputably, a much nicer driving experience.

This series 2A SWB is an early example with an 88in steel chassis and 2¼ ltr 4 cylinder petrol engine, 4 speed gearbox and later fitted Fairey overdrive, finished in air force blue with a cream hardtop, on 16in cream painted steel wheels. The Land Rover has been in the possession of the current owner since November 2012 and has been professionally repainted and rewired. The vehicle starts, runs and stops as it should, but leaves some further general tidying up to be done to the interior and engine bay, though very useable in the meantime.

There is a folder of MOTs and early registration forms. The last MOT is dated 14 February 2018.

Estimated at £5,000 - £7,000

Condition Report

The interior, buck and engine bay still retail some of the old dark red paint.

The seats are Series 3 and the centre seat has been replaced by a cubby box.

The keys for the doors are all different.

There is some osmosis in the lower doors and wings and rust in bulkhead around the lower door hinge areas and by the windscreen.
