A Georgian diamond set closed crescent brooch

A Georgian diamond set closed crescent brooch,
in a later case by Garrard & Co. Ltd. The crescent with a central row of graduated cushion cut diamonds, all set in cut down collets, with outer rows of smaller graduated cushion cut diamonds, all in cut down collets with flat, closed back settings. A screw fitting to enable a forchere or hair fitting to be attached. A plaque attached to the case lid hand engraved SS 'Clymene', launched 19th December 1960. Tested as approximately sterling silver backed in 9ct gold. 47 x 45mm, 17.47g

Victorian Jewellery

Diamonds take centre stage in our beautiful selection of historic pieces produced during the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901. Prominent for their design and composition, each is to be sold in our auction of Fine Jewellery and Watches on Tuesday 28 June.

Condition Report

Tarnished.
Light surface marks commensurate with its age.
Minor marks to the table or crown facet edges under 10x magnification.
As a Georgian piece, with a closed back setting, it is not possible to get a depth on any of the diamonds. We can supply the diameter of the principal diamonds.

2x 4.80 x 4.21mm

Clarity SI1/SI2 range
Not the three principal diamonds, but others next to them do fluoresce.
No missing stones.

 

IN PERSON

To bid in person at auction for the first time please register for a bidding paddle in advance by filling out and submitting a registration form at our front desk. When registering in person we require photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence.

ABSENTEE BIDDING

If you cannot attend the auction in person we can bid on your behalf. You can leave an absentee bid on our website.

The amount you bid should be your maximum bid. We will bid up to that limit for you, and remember you may end up paying less than your limit, depending on other bidding on the day.

You can leave an absentee bid up to half an hour before the start of any sale. Please note when we receive two or more absentee bids for the same amount, the first bid received will be the one taken.

If you would like to leave a commission bid on our website you can do so up until 30 minutes before the sale starts. Leaving a commission bid through sworder.co.uk is free for all registered clients. Once our team have entered your bid request you will receive an email confirmation. We will contact you during the sale and one of our team will bid live with you over the phone.

Please note that we normally offer this service for lots with an estimate of £500 or higher and all telephone bid requests must be received by close of business the day before the auction.
