A seasoned professional in the realm of glass art, boasting a robust portfolio of accomplishments and a deep understanding of various styles, periods, and techniques, Alex’s keen eye for detail and commitment to excellence will further enhance our ability to curate exceptional glass collections.
Despite being in Essex and with Sworders for over five years, my hometown of Stourbridge still plays a big part in my career. It was here my insatiable interest in the world of glass began. During the 19th century, Stourbridge boasted several glassworks and made numerous developments in glassmaking. This lead to multiple works featuring in the upper echelons of the art world such as the 1889 Paris Universelle Exposition.
Two Kosta Boda sommerso glass vases (Sold for £585)
My expertise range from 17th century glass to contemporary studio work, with a particular interest in mid-20th Italian and Scandinavian pieces. The latter forming a large part of my personal collection.
Having been introduced to the auction world at 15, my passion for objects and, more importantly, the puzzles they can present has been a constant source of enjoyment. Nothing is more exciting than discovering a maker or designer or finding that a particular piece has featured in an exhibition. This detective-like process ensures each day is exciting and fulfilling.
An Orrefors 'Kraka' glass vase (Sold for £360)
Known within Sworders as the point of contact for glass, I am excited to grow this area of the business. Often an overlooked medium, I aim to bring collectors together, alongside introducing new buyers to our glass offerings. Sharing information, offering advice, and hosting events are just a few ways I hope to ensure that Sworders becomes the primary source for both selling and learning more about glass.
