James Mansergh Wentworth Martin (1902-1986) was the elder son of James Wentworth Martin of Castle Jane, Glanmire, County Cork and educated at Charterhouse, RMA Woolwich andjoined the Royal Field Artillery in 1922;
West African Frontier Force 1925-1927;
Private Secretary to Governor of Assam 1928-1929;
transferred to King George V's Own Light Cavalry, Indian Army 1930;
Staff College, Camberley 1936; World War II 1939-1945;
operations in Iraq, Meerut Cavalry Bde 1938-1943;
Brig, General Staff to Gen Alexander, 15 Army Group, Italy 1943-1944;
Second in Command, 1 Indian Armoured Bde, 14 Army, Burma 1944-1945; Commander, 1 Indian Armoured Bde, India 1945-1947;
transferred to Royal Scots Greys 1948;
Chief of Staff, British Troops in Trieste 1948-1949;
Commander, 9 Armoured Bde 1949-1951;
Deputy Chief of Staff to Marshal Alphonse Juin, Commander-in-Chief, Allied Land Forces Central Europe, Fontainebleau, France 1951-1953;

You can leave an absentee bid up to half an hour before the start of any sale. Please note when we receive two or more absentee bids for the same amount, the first bid received will be the one taken.
