191 leaves in red and black lettering, 29 lines per page, 99 pages with annotations. The order of the Gothic Latin version of the gospels in Matthew, Mark, Luke & John, the margins of their pages are adorned with miniscule Gothic Latin (exceptionally abbreviated) notes in a neat hand, all in black ink. At the end of John, the pages are numbered in red ink 1-84 (Gothic numbers, e.g. 1L=74). Leaves 1-15 Paul's letter to the Romans; 15-35 Corinthians; 36 etc. other epistles. The volume is complete, bound in full brown morocco over oak boards with blind stamps of a convent, an 18th. Century silver-gilt chased clasp, light damp stain to bottom margin of the last 20 leaves, otherwise very good. This unique manuscript was in the library of the Duke of Sussex; it was bought by Quaritch in 1878.
