A 1935 Gibson ‘Nick Lucas Special’ acoustic guitar

A 1935 Gibson ‘Nick Lucas Special’ acoustic guitar,
serial no. 92126 and the FON number appears to be 1890A, but it is not clearly stamped. It is of typical form in a dark sunburst finish with a faux tortoiseshell pickguard. The headstock is inlaid with ‘Gibson’ in script and a fleur-de-lys and is stamped to the reverse ‘Made in the USA’. The 'V' profile mahogany neck on this guitar joins the body at the 14th fret and the body is of maple construction. The fitments to the guitar are all original and it comes complete with a later hard case.

Sold for £10,500

Condition Report
There are some scrapes to the varnish on the headstock and the truss rod cover is possibly a replacement.

The ridge to the back of the neck has scraped varnish and there are surface marks and dents too.

Either side of the bottom of the fingerboard are three small screw holes that would probably have held a pick up at some time. The varnish between the edge of the soundhole and the pickguard. There is a shallow dent to the top with related screw holes to the bottom that would suggest that trapeze tailpiece may have been fitted.

The sides of the guitar have surface knocks, scratches and crazing to the varnish.

The back is crazed with surface scratches and knocks. There is a crack to the join of the panels that is approximately 7cm in length and another crack tot he bottom of the guitar that follows the grain of the wood to the edge and again is approximately 7cm in length but a little wider than the other one.
