A French late 19th century diamond set brooch pendant
signed 'Mellerio Dits Meller Paix Paris'. Four cushion and old European cut diamonds claw set to a scrolling openwork cartouche frame, all grain set with graduated Swiss and rose cut diamonds, terminating with seven old European and cushion cut diamonds, all claw set, with an articulated pear-shaped diamond drop. The detachable screw back bale set with four old cut diamonds. All set in silver and backed in gold. With a detachable pendant and bale and brooch fitting, stamped with French poinçon marks for gold and silver. 15.47g
Mellerio Dits Meller is one of the oldest family-run jewellers in Europe, making exquisite jewellery for royalty and aristocracy since 1613. This piece is signed 'Paix, Paris', which is the location of the jeweller's flagship store, which was opened in 1815 and still survives today. Renowned for their connections which French and Spanish royalty, the company made pieces for Queen Marie-Amélie and King Louis-Philippe and later, in 1850, when they opened their first store in Madrid, was granted a warrant to supply jewellery for the Spanish royal family.
This piece is testimony to their exquisite craftsmanship, with a flurry of sparkling diamonds set in an intricate frame, and can we worn as a pendant or brooch. It truly is a precious piece of history.

Condition Report
Very approximate carat weight due to setting and old-cut diamond and only large stones in the piece - over 3.6cts of diamonds
6.6cm in length including pear drop.
4.4cm at widest point.
Possibly the last diamond setting has been bent very slightly upwards. Speculation that it is from a larger piece, but no obvious signs of this.
