A novelty Continental silver elephant cream jug,
marked for Berthold Muller and import marks for Glasgow, 1901,
with hinged lid and tail loop handle,
17cm long, 7oz
It is unusual to have a creamer in the form of an elephant. John Schuppe popularised, cow creamers in the 1760s and there are numerous 19th century examples. For an earlier example of a cow creamer by David Willaume II, London, 1753, see The Victoria & Albert Museum.
