18th century, made in imitation of an early archaic bronze form, the body raised on three tall spread legs with masks, the body decorated with butterflies and scrolling flowers beneath a yellow border, a pair of, posts rising from the shaped rim, the interior turquoise,
13.5cm high

Provenance: The Collection of Erik Nordström (1884-1971).

Erik Nordström took up the role of Postmaster General of the Royal Chinese General Post Office, Shanghai, in, 1910. It was here that his love of collecting Chinese ceramics began and, during a career in China of over thirty-five years, Nordström went on to gather a vast collection, with particular emphasis on objects acquired for the purpose of everyday, use.

In person

To bid in person at auction for the first time please register for a bidding paddle in advance by filling out and submitting a registration form at our front desk. When registering in person we require photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence.

Absentee bidding

Absentee bids can be left up to half an hour before the start of any sale. Please note when we receive two or more absentee bids for the same amount, the first bid received will be the buyer.

Telephone bidding

For telephone bids, we will contact you during the sale, and a saleroom representative will bid live with you over the phone. Bid amounts do not include buyers premium. We offer this service for higher value lots with an estimate of £500 or more for our Specialist Sales. Requests to bid by telephone need to be made before 4pm, the day before the sale.

If you would like to leave a commission bid on our website you can do so up until 30 minutes before the sale starts. Leaving a commission bid through sworder.co.uk is free for all registered clients.
