designed by E W Godwin (1833-1886), the moulded top over two walnut-fronted drawers and two undertiers, lacking pierced panels,

Provenance: From the descendants of Andrew Muir, (1817-1899) a wealthy merchant who, with Archibald Mirrielees (1797-1877), established Muir & Mirrielees in Moscow. The department store became a household name throughout the Russian Empire.
