  Lot 111

Six Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson oak dining chairs

Six Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson oak dining chairs,
c.1930, each with a solid back, replaced tan leather seat, raised on octagonal turned supports, united with plain stretchers,
four with two mouse signatures, on the front left legs and the top of the backs, two with mouse signatures on the front right legs, all inscribed in different places with 'H',
45cm wide
50cm deep
114cm high, seat 46cm high (6)

The chairs were bought by the present owner's father in 1958. The chairs, along with lot 110, were bought at auction, the family understands, from the estate of Sir Peter James Cunliffe Horlick, 3rd Bt (1908-1958). Interestingly, all the chairs have the 'H' initials carved into the frames in different places - was this perhaps for guests to find at the dinner table?
