A pair of navy blue tracksuit trousers

A pair of navy blue tracksuit trousers,
reputedly belonging to Lady Diana Spencer, with sewn-in label reading 'Spencer', and
a pair of black jodhpurs,
reputedly belonging to HRH Prince Charles (2)

Provenance: In 1980, following the birth of their daughter, the vendors had a large quantity of baby clothes to pass on. At that time, Poland was in the grips of martial law and food and clothes were in short supply. The Marchioness of Salisbury was collecting charitable donations and, following a short meeting with her at Hatfield House, the vendor found himself involved in organising the sorting and of packing of clothes, a mammoth task following Lady Salisbury's appeal on Radio 4 for donations which resulted in tonnes of clothes arriving from across the UK.

In 1982, following the move of Prince Charles and Diana Princess of Wales into Kensington Palace, clothes the couple had accumulated over many years were taken out of storage, and the 'Help Poland Fund' received about a dozen black bags of clothing from the items that had been stored. The intention was for these to be put into a jumble sale and most were anonymous, however, there were a few items that were named, believed to have been from the royal couple's early teenage years at their respective boarding schools.

The vendor made a donation to the charity for these items and has had them ever since.

Sold for £300

Condition Report

To whom it may concern
In 1980 following the birth of our daughter, my wife and I had a large amount of Babies clothes to pass on. At that same time The Marchioness of Salisbury was taking clothes and food to Poland. Poland was in the grips of martial law and food was extremely short. I contacted the Secretary for Lady Salisbury and told her that I had some clothes for the charity. Following a short meeting with Lady Salisbury at Hatfield House I found myself up to my ears in organising the sorting and packing of clothes to be sent. Lady Salisbury had made an appeal on Radio 4 for donations of clothes. Within about a week tons of clothes had arrived from all across the UK.
In 1982 following the move of Prince Charles and HRH Diana the Princess of Wales into Kensington Palace, The clothes that they had accumulated over the years was removed from storage. The Help Poland Fund received about a dozen black bags of clothing from the items that had been stored. These and other items were going to be put into a jumble sale. Very few of the items had names on except the clothes that the couple had used at boarding school. I made a donation to the Charity for the trousers, much more than they would have made at a jumble sale. I have had them ever since and have shown every person that has visited our house.
Both pairs of the trousers as far as I can see are from their early teenage years whilst at boarding school.
