A Derbyshire fluorspar egg

A Derbyshire fluorspar egg,
late 20th century, with cream and yellow-ochre banding, with galena inclusions, on a small spreading circular stand,
9cm wide
17cm high

Provenance: The personal collection of David and Elizabeth Hacker;
purchased by the above from Clinton Burrhouse, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Clinton Burrhouse was particularly interested in fluorspar from Derbyshire and, in 1993, obtained solid fluorspar from Smalldale Quarry in Bradwell, Derbyshire. As an experiment, he had it cut and polished into the form of eggs and spheres in China. Only a few are thought to be in existence.
