An exceptional Drinks Cabinet
late 19th century, of box form, the rosewood meticulously inlaid in mother-of-pearl with a profusion of butterflies, flowers, tendrils, birds, bats, tree rats and fish, the lid with the initials 'J.D.', the apron well carved with scrolling clouds, with key,

Quite how the very fine lines of mother-of-pearl were achieved is not known. Very many examples are missing sections, but this particular example is almost pristine. It is impossible to determine where the gilt metal glass and decanter holders were made, but they are probably European imports. The glass itself is probably French.

Shrinkage on top along rear.
Two tiny pieces of inlay missing from top.
Inlay around key escutcheon missing.
Fine split across hinged front. Tiny pieces of inlaid stringing and inlay missing.
Small 2cm length of inlay stringing missing to right side and a tiny piece of inlay.
Inlay appears all intact on left hand side.
All glass in good condition, a decanter and glass each with baccarat label.
Rear of cabinet with small inlay loss.
Interior left and right door with small inlay loss.
