Edward Bawden RA (1903-1989)

'Campions and Columbine'
four linocuts in colour, with annotations in pen
sheet 23 x 32.5cm and similar, unframed, contained in a Merivale Editions folder (4)

Provenance: A single-owner collection from a house in Great Bardfield.

Merivale Editions published this print in an edition of 500 in 1989. With Bawden's agreement the print was cut down from the original block commissioned by Curwen in 1947. A second lino block was cut to add colour to the Merivale edition which was chosen by Bawden. The prints offered for sale appear to be preparatory prints for the Merivale edition and are annotated referencing the changes made, however, it is not clear by whose hand the annotations were written. The edition was printed by Sebastian Carter at the Rampant Lion Press.

Buying a pre-loved, antique, or vintage item not only provides you with unique style and value for money but it also helps to reduce landfill, and the annual emissions of an antique or vintage piece can be as little as one sixteenth of those of its new equivalent!
