Sylvia Bergin Rowley left school at sixteen to study at St Martins College of Art. In 1930, she married Owen Rowley. The couple travelled extensively, living for a time in Glasgow and then Manchester where they came to know LS Lowry and were invited on painting trips by him. Returning to London with their son Christopher after the Second World War, Rowley became part of an artistic London set, teaching at the Grosvenor School of Art and also at the Heatherley under Iain Macnab. From the 1960s onwards she dedicated herself to painting, exhibiting at the RA Summer Exhibitions. She and her husband also held a two-man show at Sadler's Wells (1976). Read the full article here:

Condition Report

Time staining to the sheet, more so to the strip closest to mount along the right side, patch of foxing emerging lower left. However, the work is well-presented in clean mount and wooden frame, and colours are vibrant.
