An Elizabethan-style oak refectory table

19th century but incorporating some late 16th-century elements, with a cleated plank top above a pair of bulbous cup-and-cover supports, united by a stretcher terminating in outsplayed feet,

Provenance: Prince and Princess Andrew Romanoff, Provender House, the shooting lodge of Edward, the Black Prince;
acquired by the present owners from the above directly during the late 20th century.

Condition Report

General surface wear, knocks and scuffs throughout commensurate with age and use. The top planks are split and warped with iron strengthening brackets beneath, later brackets and timbers also fitted beneath the stretchers and frame. The piece has had alterations and appears to be comprising mainly 19th century elements, although the bulbous cup and cover supports are possibly 16th century. Traces of historic woodworm damage beneath which is not active. Splits to the supports and some loose elements but joints are generally sound and soli. Some scuffs and wear throughout. Overall the piece presents in sturdy usable condition and is in fair order overall.

We are busy preparing the final Fine Interiors sale of 2025 and are pleased to share a preview of selected lots, including two remarkable pieces of furniture with Russian Imperial connections.
