Support Cataloguer | 20th Century Design Department

Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic assistant valuer to join our 20th Century Design Department. The position is full time, based at our Stansted Mountfichet Auction Rooms. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, quick to learn and have a love of all aspects of 20th Century Design.

The applicant will ideally have knowledge of ceramics, works of art and furniture and an ability to value and catalogue items including Arts and Crafts, Art Deco and Modern Design. Character is more important than experience and we would be pleased to hear from bright graduates who can demonstrate a real passion for the industry and an ability to develop quickly.

The role will include

  • Cataloguing and preparing condition reports of lots for sale
  • Organising lots, assisting with our photography team and moving lots, assisting with social media campaigns within the department
  • You will be comfortable talking knowledgeably to clients, and able to handle client relationships throughout the sale process.
  • You will arrange collection of customer items, cataloguing and after sale follow up
  • You may already have relationship contacts that provide referrals and generate items for sale
  • You will be expected to build relationships with industry dealers and collectors
  • The role will also assist organisation and cataloguing of our annual Out of the Ordinary Sale
  • You should be confident, professional and courteous in dealing with the public with a passion to join and grow our exciting business
  • You will be expected to build strong working relationships with the team across our offices
    You must have attention to detail
    And you must be a good team worker and be able to work individually

You will be reporting to John Black, Director and Head of Sworders’ 20th Century Design Department

Sale Co-Ordinator | Fine Interiors Department

Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic sales co-ordinator to join our Fine Interiors Department. The position is full time, based at our Stansted Mountfichet Auction Rooms.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, quick to learn and have a love of antiques and interior design. Excellent organisational and customer relationship skills are essential. Previous experience of working in a similar role in an auction house is a certain advantage though character and skills are more important to the role.

The role will include

  • Managing sellers’ contracts, including gathering all consignments and documents from clients
  • Managing sale activity including vendor and buyer enquiries, viewing arrangements
  • Managing deliveries, organising where lots are stored and dealing with CITIES certificates
  • Managing the catalogue production process including cataloguing, photography, lotting up
  • Liaising between in-house specialists, satellite offices and consultants
  • Managing marketing and social media postings for the sale
  • Working closely with specialists to understand our customer drivers and help maintain an industry leading service

The ideal candidate will

  • Be comfortable talking knowledgeably to clients, and able to handle client relationships throughout the sale process
  • Be confident, professional and courteous in dealing with the public
  • Impeccable customer service
  • Build strong working relationship with the team in the Stansted saleroom

Porter

Overview
An opportunity for a full-time porter to join at our busy Auction Rooms in Stansted Mountfitchet, Essex. 


We require an enthusiastic person, who will be expected to lift heavy furniture, be willing to learn, able to take direction and fit into a team. 

Candidates will need to have good communication skills to deal with customers and a basic knowledge of computers would be helpful. 

 

Working hours are Monday-Friday, 9am-5.30pm. 

On-the-job training will be given.
