Russian Speaking Internship

Sworders Fine Art Auctioneers are offering a unique opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic intern to assist the preparation of a specialist single owner collection of Russian art on 30th November 2021, which will include an important collection of Russian icons, works of art and paintings.

What we are looking for

A keen and hardworking individual, fluent in Russian, who can read Cyrillic and has a knowledge of Russian culture. The role, based in Stansted Mountfitchet will involve aiding in aspects of the sale process, helping to translate text and inscriptions, researching artists and artworks, helping with the catalogue production process, pre- and post-sale administration, as well as sale day responsibilities to include telephone bidding.

What we offer

  • Experience of the day-to-day operations of an international auction house, gained through practical involvement in the activities of various departments
  • An introduction to cataloguing and research methods.
  • The opportunity to work closely with a broad range of historic and culturally important works of art, to include a collection of Russian icons dating from the 14th -20th century, paintings and works of art.
  • The opportunity to communicate with Russian clients face before and during the sale, either face to face, over the telephone or via email.

Terms, conditions and payment

The intern will be employed on a temporary contract, working 2-3 days per week from early August to early December 2021, with a degree of flexibility as to which days these will be. The role will be based primarily at our Stansted saleroom, with some time spent working in our London office near Leicester Square prior to the sale. Sworders’ standard working hours are 9am-5.30pm, although on occasion there may be the requirement to work beyond this. During the lead up to the sale, there may be the opportunity to attend events in London as part of Russian Art Week.

The intern will be eligible for £60 per day inclusive of travel expenses and lunch.
