Designer Handbags & Luxury Items

The market for luxury goods is one of the fastest-growing in the auction industry and Sworders provides a simple, reliable platform to promote your luxury goods to a global audience, helping to secure the best possible prices.

The term ‘luxury’ has many connotations and when we think about specific items that fit the bill, there are numerous.

The current market for designer handbags is vast but brands such as Chanel, Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Dior, are particularly sought after. Think Sloane Street, high end ‘luxury’ handbags that are now collector’s pieces or buy-to-wear fashion statements.

The demand for vintage and modern designer luggage and travel bags continues to grow.  In recent specialist luxury goods auctions, a classic Louis Vuitton monogrammed streamer trunk sold for £4,900 and a Goyard trunk made £1,500, whereas Louis Vuitton Keepall 50 holdalls regularly achieve prices in excess of £600.

The market for designer scarves, ties, and costume jewellery from makers such as Dior, Hermes, Chanel, and Trifari continues to grow at pace with these items becoming more and more desirable. A recent sale of a Hermès Chaine d'Ancre necklace made £900 and a pair of Chanel gold-plated monogrammed clip-on earrings sold for £300. A boxed vintage Hermes scarf can achieve in excess of £150-200 at auction.

Next on the shopping list are pens. Not your average biro but luxury branded fountain and ballpoint pens from makers such as Mont Blanc, Conway Stewart, Graf Von Faber-Castel, David Oscarson and Van Cleef and Arpel - the list goes on. These modern writing implements can be worth thousands of pounds and are high on the list for collectors. This category also includes rare vintage pens, especially examples from the 1920s and 30s including the rare Alfred Dunhill Namiki maki-e lacquer fountain pen which, in good condition can command exceptionally high prices at auction.

Finally, the sale includes luxury desk accessories such as desk stands, miniature timepieces, match strikers, inkwells, humidors, and designer book-ends. Timepieces from luxury retailers such as Hermès, Jaeger LeCoultre, and Mappin and Webb are desirable, along with smart pieces that would look the part on any executive’s desk.

Ultimately this auction is about style, brand identity, and above all ‘luxury’.
