When Jonathan Adler was studying for a degree in Art History at Brown, he was also designing and creating pottery at the Rhode Island School of Design. While studying, he was told by his professor that he had no talent and should quit to become a lawyer. Luckily, he ignored this advice and pursued his talents in the world of interior design.
Adler’s work is characterised by his love of popular culture, contemporary art, and fashion - all of which he frequently references in his designs. After graduating, he spent three years working in the entertainment industry as an assistant. Adler seems to rebel against most design norms, creating a visual language that is bold, chic, and playful.
In 1993, he founded Jonathan Adler Enterprises LLC and has since overseen the interior decoration of numerous commercial and residential projects - including The Parker Palm Springs Hotel in California and luxury cabanas for the DreamWorks Water Park in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Adler opened his first store in SoHo, New York, in 1998 and has expanded his empire ever since, launching more than 30 stores and supplying over 1,000 retailers worldwide.
