An Arts and Crafts silver and enamelled pendant, that comes up for sale at Sworders of Stansted Mountfitchet in June, was discovered by the seller in the loft of a property they purchased from the late Joscelyne Verney Charlwood Turner of St Mary’s, Platt, Kent. Joscelyne was the daughter of the much collected Arts and Crafts jewellers Georgie and Arthur Gaskin. The scaled down size of the piece suggest that the Gaskins probably made it for Joscelyne when she was a child.

The pendant - catalogued by specialist Catriona Smith as ‘attributed’ to Georgie and Arthur Gaskin - combines an oval cabochon turquoise with silver beads, green enamelled leaves and a blue enamelled forget me knot below. Mounted on a later chain, it carries an estimate of £200-400 in the June 11 sale of Fine Jewellery & Watches.

Since the early 1980s when the first exhibitions devoted to the jewellery of Arthur Joseph Gaskin (1862-1928) and his wife Georgina (1866-1934) were held, their meticulous handmade output from studios in Birmingham, Solihull and later the Cotswolds has been warmly received by the market.
