Sworders promotes sustainable shipping as part of its in-house delivery service.
20 July 2022
We have been keen to act fast and address issues highlighted in the results of our 2021 carbon emissions assessment, which concluded that outsourced air freight for our Sworders Delivery service had contributed 20% of our total annual emissions.
As the aviation industry continues to be the fastest growing contributor to climate change globally, we now actively encourage clients to consider sea freight as opposed to air freight for international shipments.
If you are prepared to wait a little longer for your purchase, opting for a sustainable sea shipment can reduce the carbon footprint of your international delivery by over 98%*. Not to mention the added cost saving!
For purchased lots to be delivered overseas, clients may now request a sustainable shipping quote using a simple flag for interest on our Bespoke Shipping Quotation form (linked on invoices) which then feeds back to our shipping partner Bradleys to supply the quote based on the item(s) and the delivery address.
Sustainable shipping quotes can currently be applied to most items of furniture, larger items and paintings measuring in excess of 1.5 metres in length. Due to complexities with timescales, costs and paperwork, it isn’t currently feasible to deliver smaller items, such as jewellery, via sea freight. Though we hope this will change in the near future.
* Sea container shipments are 98.4% less carbon intensive than international shipments by air (per tonne/km, BEIS 2021).
