We are honoured to announce that our upcoming Old Master, British and European Art Auction on 28 May features a remarkable group of works from the collection of Mr. Malcolm Innes, one of Britain’s most respected dealers in Scottish, sporting, and military pictures. Spanning nearly five decades of dedicated collecting and curating, the offering includes works from both his gallery and personal holdings. Among the highlights, collectors will find a fine example by William Shayer and a delicate drawing, Studies of Roe Deer, by the celebrated Sir Edwin Henry Landseer. These can be found in Lots 375–403.

Malcolm Innes began his career in Chelsea in 1973, quickly establishing himself as a passionate advocate and knowledgeable dealer of British art, particularly in the fields of Scottish, sporting, and military pictures. In the early 1980s, he opened a gallery in George Street, Perth, which he later moved to Edinburgh—first to another George Street address and eventually to Dundas Street in 1995. His London presence grew alongside this, culminating in a gallery space on Bury Street, St James's, widely regarded as the heart of the art world.

As retirement approached, Malcolm passed on the Edinburgh gallery to his long-time partner Anthony Woodd, while the London operation merged with the renowned Tryon Gallery, now known as Rountree Tryon Gallery and based in Petworth. Throughout his long and influential career, Malcolm advised an impressive array of private and corporate clients. His clientele included members of the Royal Family and well-known figures such as Sir Jackie Stewart and the late Charlie Watts. His influence reached beyond Britain as he exhibited at prestigious fairs across the United States, Europe, Hong Kong, and nearly 50 Game Fairs across England and Scotland.

Now 86, Malcolm lives with his wife Celia in Kilspindie, near their former home in Perthshire. They have two children: Robert, a partner at Slaughter & May in London, and Fiona, Registrar at Cargilfield Prep School in Edinburgh. Although officially retired, Malcolm remains closely connected to the art world. He continues to offer his expertise in restoration, framing, and valuations, and still advises collectors on buying and selling at auction. True to form, he has never lost his passion for helping others appreciate and care for fine art.
